4th Open International Adventure Kayaking Championshipin Poland, 2011
I. WHERE AND WHEN
1. The championship will take place between the 2nd and the 4th
of September 2011 on the following routes:

Radunia Old Riverbed between Kolbudy and Bielkowko. There will
be a time limit to cover this section.
Before the beginning of the section, a Kayak Slalom competition will take place, and a Strainer
Slalom will follow the finish of the section in Bielkowo.
- On the lake in close proximity to the camping ground we will run
competitions in the Rescue Techniques.

Radunia River Gorge between Babi Dol and Rutki. There will be a time
limit to cover this section.The Strainer Techniques competition will take place during this section.

II. ORGANISERS
Organisers of the Championship are Water Sports Club ‘Zabi Kruk’,
Kolbudy Borough Council, Parish Kayak Club ‘Radunia’ in Straszyn,
Rescue Fundation ‘Safe on Water’, Student Kayak Club ‘Morzkulc’ in Gdansk,
and Association of Kayak Instructors and Coaches in Warsaw.
III. PARTICIPANTS
1. Due to the character of the Championship’s route and the character of the competitions held, the number of participants is limited. The final decision whether to permit participation in the Championship lies within the authority of the Organizers. Acceptance will be decided on a first come first served basis.
2. The Championship is run on an open-basis, i.e., every adult person is eligible to partake regardless of their formal kayaking qualifications, provided they will have formally registered their participation and fulfill the requirements of the present regulations.
3. Underage individuals can be allowed to participate under the condition that they will paddle under the direct supervision of their legal guardian who possesses formal kayak instructor qualifications, or equivalent (see Chapter IX, point 1). The legal guardian of an underage participant will be required to file an appropriate statement in writing at the office of the Championship.
4. The organizers will divide all participants of the Championship into teams. A standard team will be made up of three participants. The starting order in the consecutive sections and competitions will be decided through a random draw performed at the time of registration.
5. The teams composition will remain the same throughout the Championship.
6. Each team will be directed by a Team Leader appointed by the Organizers. A Team Leader must possess formal kayak instructor qualifications, or equivalent (see Chapter IX, point 1).
7. At the request of the team, a team whose team leader does not possess the required qualifications may be allowed participation in the Championship under the condition that every member of the team individually signs an appropriate statement.
8. All teams are wholly independent. Unless stated otherwise by the specific competition regulations, the teams are allowed to alter the paddling order of their members during the course of any and each of the Championship’s sections. The decision to alternate the paddling order belongs to the Team Leader.
9. The paddling order of the team members, the organisation of mutual safety assistance within the team, and the team members starting order in the point-scoring competitions are subject to the Team Leader’s decision.
10. The Team Leader appointed by the Championship Organizers can be changed at the request of the team members provided that all the following conditions are fulfilled:

the suggested candidate for Team Leader must possess formal kayak instructor qualifications, or equivalent (See Chapter IX, point 1);

notification of the will to change a Team Leader has to be made at least two hours before the beginning of the section;

notification accompanied by proof of the required qualifications possessed by the suggested candidate has to be submitted in writing to the Principal Referee;

the change suggestion has to be made by all members of the team who will be required to personally sign the written notification;
-
the change suggestion must be accepted by the Principal Referee; the team members will be notified of the decision prior to the beginning of the section.
IV. REGISTRATION
1. The formal registration deadline is the 15th of August 2011. All participants registered prior to the formal deadline will be guaranteed the full range of services offered by the Organizers during the Championship.
2. To register the following information is required:
- full name;
- current address;
- PESEL (applies only to Polish citizens);
- type and number of your qualification certificate;
- contact details: e-mail address, phone number (please include country code)
- f. supplementary information (please refer to: Registration Form)
3. When registering multiple participants you can suggest members for the team and Team Leaders by filling the appropriate fields of the Registration Form.
4. Individuals who register participation after the official deadline (15th August 2011) may be refused entry to the Championship, will not be able to influence teams composition, and may not be eligible for all the services provided by the Organizers during the Championship as specified in the current document.
V. ENTRY FEE
The value of the entry fee is dependent on the time of registration:

participants who register after the official deadline, i.e. 16th August 2011, but no later than the verification of participants immediately prior to the beginning of the Championship

- The cost of the participation fee is fixed regardless of the number of competitions an individual decides to partake in.

2. Entry fee can be paid in advance by bank transfer to:

or in cash during the participants verification at the Championship office.
3. Entry fee entitles participants to:
- meals: breakfast and dinner, and beverages provided along the competitions’ routes (exception see Chapter IV, point 4)
- accommodation in a hotel or a campsite (entry fee does not depend on the type of accommodation (see Chapter V, point 1)
- personal and equipment transportation along the competitions’ routes, to and from the accommodation sites (except return from Bielkowko)
- insurance for the duration of the Championship
- medical aid (first aid point located at the campsite)
- Championship souvenir (exception see Chapter IV, point 4)
VI. ACCOMM0DATION
1. For the duration of the Championship, participants who registered before the official deadline and who had been permitted entry, will be allocated accommodation in a hotel. Due to limited capacity of the facility, hotel accommodation will be allocated on a first come first served basis.
2. Participants who are not allocated the hotel accommodation will be offered a camping space at a campsite (please bring your own camping equipment).
3. The campsite is fenced and security guards will be present at the site at all times throughout the duration of the Championship.
4. Campsite stewards appointed by the Organizers will be supervising the allocation of the camping spaces, and will be responsible for the overall organization and assistance at the campsite.
5. The organizers do not take responsibility for any items left unattended. It is advised to deposit any valuables at the Championship office for the duration of the tournament.
VII. BOATS AND OTHER EQUIPMENT
1. Only single kayaks are allowed entry in the competitions.
2. Participants enter the competitions with their own equipment with the exception of the Sea Techniques competition where the boats and the necessary gear are provided by the Organizers.
3. Each participant must be wearing a buoyancy aid when entering competitions.
4. Only participants wearing a buoyancy aid and a helmet will be allowed entry into the Slalom and White Water Techniques competitions.
5. Due to the character of the river and the style of the competitions the use of a spray deck is required.
6. Participants are allowed the use of different kayaks during the Championship provided that the boat’s nautical characteristics are suited for a given competition.
7. Each participant is required to wear and correctly display their competition number when entering competitions. Failure to comply with this requirement will result in a technical disqualification of the participant from a given competition.

IX. CLASSIFACATION, DISTINCTIONS AND PRIZES
1. Competing for the title of the Instructor Champion 2011 are Physical Recreation Instructors specializing in kayaking, Sport Instructors and coaches specializing in kayaking, and individuals who possess other internal instructor qualifications (or equivalent), such as PZKaj Recreation Instructor, PTTK Kayak Tourism Leader, Club Instructor, etc., and who are able to present written evidence of the qualifications held during the participant verification stage taking place before the commencement of the tournament.
If providing such evidence is impossible, participants will be required to file a written statement declaring the relevant qualifications held.
2. Individual results of all participants will be classified in two separate, female and male categories. A category will not be formed unless a minimum of four participants have registered under the category. In the event of a smaller number of participants falling under either of the categories, the title of the Instructor Champion will not be awarded in that category.
3. During the Championship there will be two types of classification: team and individual.
4. All registered and verified teams enter the team classification (for exception see Chapter X, point 5).
5. The scoring system of each competition is outlined in the separate detailed Competition Regulations.
6. Only a participant who entered all the competitions and completed all the time-limited sections of the Championship may be granted the title of the Champion Instructor.
X. SCORING
Individual classification
1. Competing for the Champion Instructor title, participants gain points entering the following
competitions:
- Individual Strainer Techniques
- Kayak Slalom
- Strainer Slalom
2. Position in the final classification is determined by the sum of points gained by a participant
in all point-scoring individual competitions.
3. In the event of technical disqualification from competition, the participant receives zero points.
4. The Champion Instructor title is awarded to the qualifying participant (see Chapter IX, point 1) who received the highest number of points in his or her category.
5. In the event of two or more participants having scored the same number of points,
in the first instance, the classification order is decided according to the total
number of points gained in the slalom competitions. In the second instance, the classification order is
dependent on the results in the Individual Strainer Techniques competition.
Team classification
6. Only teams of three participants are considered for the team classification.
Teams whose participants dropped out in the course of the Championship are excluded from the team classification.
Teams which were added additional participants during the course of a section,
will participate in the team competitions in their original team composition.
7. Team competitions include:
- Team Strainer Techniques;
- Rescue Techniques
8. A team’s final point score comprises of:
8.1 The sum of points gained by the team members in the individual competitions;
8.2 The sum of points gained as a team in the team competitions – the number of points for each competition being equal to the position achieved in that competition;
as well as bonus points:
8.3 For each female team member 3 points will be deducted from the team’s final score;
8.4 For each team member who participates in the Championship for the first time 1 point will be deducted from the team’s final score.
9. It is required that all team members and only those team members as registered during participant verification enter the team competitions specified in point 6 of the present Chapter.
10. Position in the final team classification is determined by the sum of points gained by the team,
including the premium points. The team with the highest number of points wins.
11. In the event of two or more teams having scored the same number of points, the final classification order is determined by the sum of the points gained by the team in the team competitions.
Disqualification
12. There are two types of disqualification possible during the Championship:

Technical disqualification understood as a result of failure to comply with the requirements specified in the regulations for a given competition, e.g., unintentionally exceeding the time limit
-
Penal disqualification understood as a result of the intentional actions of a participant, e.g., actions hampering conducting competition(s), or unsportsman-like conduct unbecoming of a paddler.
13. The decision about technical disqualification belongs to the referee in charge of a given competition.
14. Decision about penal disqualification is taken jointly by the Chief Referee and the Chief Executive Officer.
15. Technical disqualification is reflected in the scoring balance of a given competition, but it does not bear disciplinary consequences.
16. Penal disqualification results in exclusion of the participant(s) from the classification of the competition or the Championship. In particularly severe cases participant(s) may be excluded from participation in the Championship.
XI. SAFETY AND RESCUE
1. The safety system of the Championship is based on a principle of mutual rescue support of the team members.
2. A group of participants is considered a team if there are at least 2 members remaining and who paddle under the leadership of the Team Leader.
3. In the event of equipment damage or any other incident precluding a team member from further participation, appropriate arrangements are to be taken by the Team Leader with the unconditional requirement of assuring the safety of all team members. Each such incident must be reported to the Referee Committee by the Team Leader.
4. When the number of team members falls below the permitted level (minimum 2 members including the Team Leader), the reduced team joins another team and complies with the instructions of its Team Leader.
5. It is strictly forbidden to paddle alone. A participant who detaches him or herself from the team, or who attempts the competition route individually will be excluded from the Championship.
6. Additional rescue assistance will be provided by the Organizers near the spots requiring land-based assistance during the following competitions:
- Kayak Slalom in Kolbudy
- Strainer Slalom in Bielkowko
7. In order to efficiently secure the safety of fellow team members during competitions, each participant must be equipped in personal safety aids, while the team must carry a first aid kit, at least one rescue throw line and one working mobile phone. In addition to the Polish general emergency phone number 112, the Organizers will provide all participants with an emergency number to the Championship office.
8. Independently of the rescue arrangements within participating teams, each participant is responsible for securing his or her own safety through technical skills adequate to the difficulty level of the competition, adequate personal equipment and safety aids.
9. Minimum safety requirements for entering the Championship competitions are as follows:
9.1. Technical skills:
- Ability to paddle rivers graded ZWC and WW II;
- Ability to swim and to perform basic kayak maneuvers, such as brace, bow rescue, wet exit, etc.
9.2. Personal equipment:
- Clothing providing protection and thermal comfort;
- Footwear providing protection in water as well as on land;
- Helmet.
9.3. Safety equipment:
- Suited buoyancy aid;
- Suited, unsinkable kayak.
10. During the Strainer Techniques competition and during the time-limited sectionss (on Radunia River, and Radunia Old Riverbed) the directions for use of the personal safety equipment will be given by the Team Leader.
11. It is an unconditional requirement for the participants to wear a buoyancy aid during the Sea Techniques competition and additionally a helmet during slalom competitions in Kolbudy and Bielkowko, as well as during the White Water and Rescue Techniques competitions in Zukowo. In the event of failure to comply with the above requirements participant(s) will not be permitted entry into the competition, and any attempts to avoid compliance with the requirement will result in penal disqualification.
12. Main principles of the land-based rescue assistance during the slalom and White Water Techniques competitions:
- the land-based assistance has unconditional priority in access to water at any time during the competitions.
- participant can request land-based assistance at any time during a competition by rising either of his or her hands.
- the land-based rescue team will act in accordance with the best practice deployed in white water rescue operations if the participant’s health or life is deemed to be evidently in danger, regardless of the signals given by the participant.
- the land-based assistance will engage in lifting equipment out of the water if carried away by the current as long as such activities do not collide with the rescue operation.
- during a rescue operation the Chief Referee may suspend the start of the competition.

XII. FINAL REMARKS
1. Interpretation of all rules pertinent to classification and point scoring contained in the present Championship Regulations and the Competition Regulations is at the sole discretion of the Referee Committee.
2. Organizers reserve the right to depart from the provisions of the present Championship Regulations and the Competitions Regulations in certain circumstances beyond the control of the Organizers. In particular, this right refers to the number of the competitions held, size of the teams, and the Championship programme.
